Senior Quantity Surveyor

About you

If you are an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who enjoys having responsibility for the commercial performance of construction projects, this could be an interesting opportunity if you are considering your next move.

You will be joining an established construction business, working from the SE1 area of Central London, where you will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects and work closely with the wider operational and commercial teams.

You will be trusted to manage your projects properly, from procurement and subcontractor management through to valuations, cost reporting and final accounts.

There will also be an opportunity to support and develop less experienced Quantity Surveyors, so this could suit someone who enjoys helping others progress while remaining closely involved in their own projects.

The salary is £80,000 to £85,000 per annum.

Your experience

You will need previous experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction, with a strong understanding of commercial management and project delivery.

You should be confident managing subcontractor procurement, valuations, variations, forecasting, cost reporting and final accounts.

You will understand how to manage commercial risks, protect project margins and make sure the financial position of each project is properly controlled.

Experience working closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers and clients will be important, as you will be involved in commercial discussions and decisions throughout the project lifecycle.

You should also be comfortable supporting junior Quantity Surveyors and helping them develop their commercial knowledge.

A degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline would be preferred, with CIOB or RICS accreditation considered an advantage.

What you will be doing with your experience

You will be responsible for managing the commercial performance of construction projects, ensuring costs, margins and contractual obligations are properly controlled.

You will oversee subcontractor procurement, negotiate and place orders, manage valuations and variations and monitor project expenditure against budget.

You will also produce forecasts and commercial reports, giving senior management a clear understanding of project profitability and any potential risks.

As projects progress, you will work closely with operational teams to identify commercial issues, agree variations and make sure contractual matters are dealt with properly.

You will maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring commercial discussions are handled professionally and in the interests of the business.

There will also be responsibility for supporting junior commercial staff, sharing your experience and helping maintain good commercial standards across the projects you are involved in.

About the business

You will be joining an established construction business with an experienced management team and a structured approach to commercial management.

The business is looking for someone who can bring strong Quantity Surveying experience, sound commercial judgement and the confidence to take ownership of projects.

You will work alongside operational and commercial colleagues, with responsibility for ensuring projects are commercially successful while maintaining good relationships with clients and the supply chain.
